(More customer reviews)I've been using mine for just about a week now. I am an I/M technician, and I have seen the need for a tool like this for years. Vehicle owners are frequently commenting (complaining) of the hardships of OBDII testing:
1) Owners don't know when to bring the vehicle back to be tested, or if they are even being successful at getting any of the monitors to set.
2)They don't like the idea of paying a technician $100/hour to drive their vehicle to set the monitors for them.
3)They are worried about how the technician will/has driven their vehicle.
4)Technicans complain about having to risk getting a ticket due to the vehicles registration being expired, or having to drive a vehicle around getting the monitors to set when there is better paying jobs in the bay.
5)I see many vehicles that reset the monitors to incomplete whenever the vehicle is started. These vehicles will never pass, but it is easy to determine by plugging the tool in, drive it and see if some monitors set, turn the vehicle off and restart. If the monitors are incomplete you have a direction to pursue your diagnostics.
This product takes care of these issues. The software that came with the product allowed me to easily set the parameters to our states particular requirements. The cord is long enough route out of the way and still have the unit easily readable. It can even audibly inform you when it's ready to go get I/M tested.
Is this really that good? Yep, and I just loaned it out to another shop to try out because they didn't like the idea of driving a vehicle with expired tags. Now they can leave that ticket to the owner!
Kinda wish I had an engineering background myself... :)
