(More customer reviews)I just installed this on my 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Took about 30 minutes to mount the camera to the license plate, and run the wires to my backup lights wiring (I did drill a hole through my license plate and "bumper", to run the wires, and give the install a clean appearance). Initially, the camera connections didn't work because the supplied "quick connect splicers" didn't push into the camera wires. So I removed the "quick splicers" and manually spliced the wires the old fashion way. I then plugged the color monitor into my cigartte plug, and the unit worked like a charm when I placed the truck in reverse. Unlike a previous reviewer, I experienced only a 1 or 2 second delay from placing the truck in reverse to when the monitor display automatically came on. Also, I've had no issues with the monitor not coming on automatically, or with the display resorting back to an undesired orientation (you have 4 display options, depending on how you mount the monitor). Everything works great.
I'm pleasantly surprised at how clear the monitor image is and the size of the field of view of the camera. I have not used it at night, but imagine the backup lights will supply enough light to suffice.
I plan on running the alernate supplied wiring so I can power the monitor from behind the dash, rather than using the cigarette plug.
My only gripe is that there's a small amount of ocassional static in the image, I'm guessing from surrounding wireless interference (i.e. wireless routers, cell phones, etc...). However, this has little impact on the usability of the unit.
I am happy enough that I plan on buying another one to put in my wife's van. [...]
